Well, it’s begun. January 8th opened the 103rd General Assembly of the State of Missouri. We had Informed Health Choice members there to visit with legislators and their families as they prepared for the new legislative session. It was a great day to see familiar faces and to meet new ones. We spent most of the day in the House and ended the day in the Senate.
We sat in the gallery as the 163 House Representatives took their “oath of office” and then proceeded to vote for leadership in the House. We were disappointed to watch as 152 members of the House voted for Rep. Jon Patterson for the Speaker of the House and only 10 members voted for Rep. Justin Sparks.

Then we watched as the newly elected Speaker of the House took his oath. We were shocked to hear something in the Oath of the Speaker that we had never noticed before. See if you notice it…
Did you hear him say, “and keep the secrets of the house”? Did you also hear him call us a Democracy, twice?
